Our Story

Sakshm (Sanskrit for capable), is a social enterprise initiative conceptualized by like-minded individuals over morning walks and tea conversations in 2023. What began as reflective discussions gradually evolved into a shared concern about the deteriorating condition of a cattle sanctuary (gaushala) struggling to survive. Ancient scriptures regard cows as harbingers of prosperity and central to agrarian socio-economic growth. Yet, despite this deep cultural reverence, many gaushalas today face severe financial and operational challenges.

Ironically, even modern western business thought acknowledges the economic significance of such an asset. In the 1960s, the term cash cow emerged in management vocabulary—later popularized by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG)—to describe a reliable, value-generating asset.

Moved by the stark contrast between this philosophical reverence and the difficult reality on the ground, the group resolved to act.. They came together to contribute their resources, professional experience, and networks to revive the struggling gaushala—not merely as an act of charity, but as the foundation of a profitable rural enterprise.

Thus, Sakshm was conceived through a socio-capitalist lens—one that believes meaningful social impact must be supported by sound and sustainable economic models. The poster project aims at transforming cattle care into a catalyst for economic resilience, tribal empowerment, and rural livelihoods. By combining traditional wisdom with modern enterprise thinking, Sakshm seeks to build a model where cattle care, community development, and sustainable income generation reinforce one another.

At Sakshm, our herdsmen and their families are an integral part of our ecosystem—valued and cared for just as much as the cattle they tend.
